The motor includes a wet-wound stator with PE2/PA rewindable windings, and the rotor is permanently magnetised. The PM motor is 4-pole and must be supplied with up to 100 Hz via a frequency converter. This means that the motor runs at 3000 rpm while 'normal' asynchronous motors run at approximately 2800 rpm. This means that for a given duty point, it is possible to select a pump with less stages to achieve the required duty.

A PM motor must be operated via a frequency converter and the converter must be of the ""IPM compatible"" type. An output filter (sine-wave filter) must be installed between the frequency converter and the motor to smoothen the power supply and limit voltage peaks to the motor since the frequency converter otherwise causes stress on the motor windings and risk of reduced service life. Grundfos offers frequency converters and filters to match the submersible PM motors. Using a PM motor instead of a standard asynchronous motor can increase system efficiency by up to 10 % as well as increase the lifetime of the motor due to less heat development.

The motor has standardised D-end according to NEMA standard MG 1-18.413, liquid lubricated bearings and a pressure-equalising diaphragm to accommodate volume changes caused by temperature changes.
